Looking fit and fabulous is hard work but manageable! If you have struggled to lose weight or perhaps you have lost some but are stuck in a rut, let’s break down the weight loss process and get back to basics to get you back on track. What follows is a small list of pitfalls that sabotage your weight (and fat-loosing) management efforts.
1) You are working out too much or too little
Yes! There is a balance to everything in life and exercise is no different. The frequency, intensity, type and time (F.I.T.T.) is a formula that optimizes your training efforts by tweaking your
exercise variables. You could be working too hard or not hard enough. Have a conversation with your personal trainer or fitness professional, usually minor tweaks will yield great results. If you are
on a budget, mix things up a little with strength training and group fitness classes, and don’t forget to take a day off, rest is just as important as working hard.
Don’t expect to see new things happen to your body if you are stuck doing the same old things.
2) You are eating more calories than you are expending.
Aha! No earth-shattering discovery here! Look for ways that you could be sabotaging your own efforts, such as too many umbrella drinks on Friday nights or too much of the foods that trick you into
believing they are good for you, like fatty salad dressings! An exercise of writing everything you eat (and drink) for a week will give you an insight of your true nutritional habits. Cut the
sabotagers and insure that you are burning more calories than you are consuming.
3) You are letting the commitment wagon drive off once you have fallen from it
Everyone has setbacks and the secret to weight loss is to get back up from a fall, shake off the bruise and get back in the game. Do not beat yourself up if you have fallen, get back to eating
healthy and exercising and you will reach your fitness goals. Remember though, do not make a habit of bad behaviors, you have to identify the triggers that make you fall and avoid them at all
costs.
4) Don’t lose motivation
Celebrate the small victories and don’t lose sight of your overall goal. Find a friend who wants to start exercising and become a mentor… you will be helping someone while helping yourself. Don’t be
afraid to tell the sabotagers in your life that fitness is important to you and come up with strategies to avoid the bad-influencers.
Get back in the game, NOW!
